FAIR PLAY AWARD
The Squash Player Fair Play Award at the 2016 Nationals goes to Scotland’s Greg Lobban, who, when the Referee insisted on awarding him a point after Daryl Selby’s three wall mis-hit boast was called down, conceded that the ball was up and that he would not have got it. Lobban’s honesty helped the third-seeded Englishman to a 3/2 quarter final win.
MATCH OF THE TOURNAMENT
There were many excellent matches at the Nationals, but the intense physical, tacical and mental quarter final between Daryl Selby and Greg Lobban wins my vote.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Greg Lobban, the sixth seed, was impressive in his 3/2 loss to Daryl Selby in the quarter finals. He is maturing but let his concentration slip marginally at the end against Selby.
